3 Ways Modern Technology Is Affecting Human Behavior And The World

Today’s world is heavily reliant on all sorts of technology, like cell phones, the Internet and computers, just to name a few.

Of course, these advancements are mind-blowing, but the way they have shaped society’s behavior is also worth noting.

Technology has become such an integrated part of our lives that many of us don’t even stop to think twice about what the world would be like without it.

Some find themselves in a state of anxiety and panic when their cell phones die, demonstrating just how crucial these devices have become.

Where would we be without “Facebook official” relationships, love at first swipe and Facebook creeping, after all?

Got an idea? Speak your mind. The Internet is listening.

Whenever anyone feels like sharing an idea, whether it’s philosophical, political or entertaining, the Internet is available to do just that.

You don’t need to be a movie star, a politician or a Nobel Prize winner to be heard these days, thanks to the World Wide Web.

People from all over the world (famous or not) are sharing their thoughts through the Internet, which, not too long ago, was an inconceivable idea.

Citizens are able to contact their politicians via email, protest and stand up for particular beliefs through online petitions, among other actions the Internet affords.

The Internet has an active audience.

The Internet is not just a place where people can share their ideas with one another, but rather, it is also a platform on which others can engage with those ideas and expand on them.

A great example of this is the Kickstarter funding platform. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Kickstarter, it is essentially a website where users can propose projects, establish deadlines and set funding goals.

From there, other users can choose whether or not to help fund and support the project, allowing it to develop further. Without sites like these, many people would struggle to find funding to help turn their ideas into realities.

Additionally, the web has also brought some to fame, whether through singing videos on YouTube (like Justin Bieber) or a tweet that just happened to go viral (#alexfromtarget); the Internet has become a clearly invaluable resource.

Keep in touch with others, whether they are near or far.

Email, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Skype, FaceTime… the list of applications goes on and on. Many of us are highly aware that technology allows people to stay in constant communication.
People separated by hundreds of miles no longer need to rely on snail mail to deliver their letters, but rather, can see each other through various video chat apps.

Heck, even people who live right down the hall from one another use such apps to communicate, and that’s okay, too.

Social media apps allow people to share various aspects of their lives with others, either privately or publicly, from pictures of a night out with friends to relationship statuses to what they ate from lunch, which is a fascinating phenomenon.

Keeping in touch with one another is no longer difficult. Of course, it will never truly be the same as face-to-face interactions, but we now have more opportunities to communicate with each other on a more frequent basis than others have in the past, regardless of location.

While technology can be an incredible thing, it is obviously important to maintain a balance between the cyber world and the real world.

Although these advancements are invaluable and important in today’s society, we must be careful to not lose sight of the people who are physically around them and relish in the present world as well.
